Barbie the career woman

I was never allowed a Barbie as my mum claimed they were completely unrepresentative of real women and would lead me to do something as vacuous as well, fashion I suppose. Good work there mum. You may however be surprised to hear that Barbie has held down a whopping 125 jobs in her life. Her most impressive being a brief stint as an astronaut. You go girl! Here is Barbie back in 1986 doing it for the girls.

The new urban cool

Originally worn in the Arctic to battle bitterly cold conditions, the ever functional parka has since become fall’s chicest coverup of choice. The durability of this classic design was popular with the Mod movement of the ‘50s and ‘60s whilst serving a more practical purpose within the US military. Fast forward to the modern day and the parka is back, reimagined for fall in a versatile mix of sassy sophistication and sports-couture designs. ChloĆ© opted for easy elegance with decadently fur-trimmed hoods worn open over caramel jersey dresses, whilst Bottega Veneta took a grungier approach with sporty-luxe drawstring coverups. So how to work the parka now? Throw it on over everything from bodycon dresses to softly tailored separates for an instant dose of new-season attitude.

Posen moves to Paris

Today industry favourite Zac Posen has announced that a move to gay Paris may be on the cards for the fashion powerhouse. He believes that his clothes are more respected within European shores where they understand him better. “It's about the work I do, and who wears the clothes " says Zac. I think the NYC crowd may have just been given the cold shoulder. Ouch!

Kirsten Dunst and V magazine

I used to think that Kirsten Dunst was a little on the dull side and her interest stopped at cheesy teen movies and girl-next door looks. But check out her lateset offering featured in V magazine's spring issue! Styled by super-stylist Nicola Formichetti and photographed by Mario Testino, Kirsten is transformed from a pretty blonde to a ravishing covergirl.

Summerings

As the sun popped its glorious head out this weekend, my favourite sandals followed suit along with a pair of pasty bare legs and my new utility shorts that I'd been dying to wear, (not quite ready legs in hindsight). As I walked a few yards along the road I realised that I'd fallen into the trap of a typical Brit and dressed for August in April and was pretty bloody cold. Oh dear. Goosebumps did not go well with my new shorts. With the taste of summer and last night’s BBQ in mind my warm-weather wish list is growing by the day and I can't wait to show some appropriately prepared skin. So here's how I plan on staying cool this summer. ...What are you planning to pull out from the back of the closet?
